Sure♦Blade™ Diamond Laser Knife
 The Diamond LaserKnife is an innovative, ultra-precision "cold contact" diamond scalpel that offers the surgeon the added benefit of simultaneous controlled cauterization. This unique impact technology gives the surgeon one handed precision cutting while providing a uniform and controllable field of infrared energy at the tissue interface. Unlike free-hand-cutting surgical lasers and electro-cautery systems, the Diamond LaserKnife provides the user with tactile feedback and a cutting instrument that is over 40 times sharper than a steel scalpel. Since the diamond remains cold while the infrared energy heats the tissue to coagulation temperature, collateral tissue damage is minimized and there is less delay in re-vascularization. This results in less bruising with quicker healing and recovery. Additionally, swelling and scarring of tissue is greatly reduced.

Advantages
The Diamond LaserKnife™ is an accessory handpiece for CO2 laser systems that consists of a diamond cutting blade and handle -- (scroll over image for different tip type)
This unit couples to a Flexible Fiber Cable assembly that conducts CO2 laser energy from the laser system to the blade tip. The laser energy is emitted from the facets at the blade tip to the tissue when the laser is energized. The entire handpiece may be autoclave-sterilized following cleaning. A protective cap is provided to prevent ingress of steam or water at the cable end. A retractable sheath at the distal end protects the diamond blade during handling and during the autoclave process.
Refer to the "Operation" images below -- (scroll over) -- for laser energy distribution pattern for the Lance version of the LaserKnife. Distribution for the single edge version is similar but distributed over a larger area of the cutting surface. Energy is radiated from the distal end of each blade facet.

Fluence settings depend on the procedure performed, the vascularity of the tissue to be incised or excised, and the degree of cauterization/coagulation desired. It is recommended that low power be used initially (CW), and that power be increased as required to obtain the desired results.
Intended Use
The Diamond LaserKnife is indicated for incision and/or excision, with or without cauterization/coagulation, of soft tissue in open dermatology, general surgery, and plastic surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, oral surgery, oto-rhino-laryngology, podiatry, and urology.
Operation
The Diamond LaserKnife may be used to cut, cut and cauterize/coagulate, or cauterize/coagulate only, depending upon user preference. The lance configuration may be preferred for puncture types of incisions and when very precise incisions are needed. The single edge blade configuration may be preferred for more general excision or cutting.
